The journal publishes high-quality, original studies that examine individual, organizational, and institutional factors influencing women’s entrepreneurial activities across diverse socio-economic contexts.
JWEE is dedicated to advancing research, analysis, and scholarly dialogue on women’s entrepreneurship and education, with particular emphasis on empowerment, inclusion, and sustainable economic development in rural, urban, and other environments. The journal encourages contributions from scientists, scholars and practitioners from both developed and developing countries. - Motivational drivers of female entrepreneurs’ business creation
- Gender differences and socio-economic determinants of entrepreneurship
- Access to financial, human, and social capital
- Resilience, sustainability, and performance of women-owned enterprises

- Organizational culture and women-led businesses
- Ethics, governance, and efficiency in women’s entrepreneurship
- Entrepreneurial and lifelong learning of women
- Entrepreneurial students' education and gender differences
- Digital skills, innovation, and technology adoption in women-owned businesses.
The journal emphasizes the integration of theoretical and empirical research, thereby supporting the development of evidence-based policies, educational initiatives, and practical support mechanisms aimed at empowering women and enhancing their participation in the global economy. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, JWEE contributes to the development of relevant entrepreneurial models and frameworks, ensuring that women’s contributions to business and society are both recognized and effectively leveraged.
JWEE provides an interdisciplinary platform that brings together researchers and practitioners from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. It encourages contributions that examine women’s entrepreneurship across different cultural, institutional, and socio-economic contexts, with a strong emphasis on international and comparative perspectives. This approach enhances the journal’s global relevance and supports the dissemination of knowledge across regions and research communities.
Through the dissemination of rigorous, peer-reviewed research, JWEE aims to support evidence-based policymaking, advance academic excellence, and contribute to sustainable and inclusive economic development
HISTORY OF THE JOURNAL
The Journal of Women’s Entrepreneurship and Education was established in 2008 by its Editor-in-Chief, Mirjana Radović-Marković, who is also its founder. The journal is published by the Institute of Economic Sciences, Belgrade, Serbia, a reputable scientific research institution founded in 1958 and dedicated to the advancement of contemporary scientific and applied research.
Since its inception, the journal has been recognized as one of the earliest academic publications globally devoted exclusively to women’s entrepreneurship, thereby achieving notable scholarly and historical relevance. In acknowledgment of its pioneering contribution, the journal and its founder were granted the Special Award for Academic Contribution to Women’s Entrepreneurship by the Association of Businesswomen of Serbia in 2020 (Cvet uspeha for “Žena Zmaja 2020”), an award recognizing excellence among women entrepreneurs and gender-sensitive companies in Serbia.
Unlike journals that incorporate gender and entrepreneurship within broader thematic domains, this journal maintains a clearly defined and specialized scope. It publishes comparative and empirically grounded analyses of women’s entrepreneurial activities, challenges, and success determinants across diverse regional and sectoral contexts. By systematically integrating theoretical and applied perspectives, the journal contributes to the development of educational frameworks, evidence-based policymaking, and business practice. Its sustained focus on women’s education and empowerment establishes it as a relevant platform for advancing gender equality, supporting social innovation, and strengthening scholarly discourse in the field of women’s entrepreneurship.
FUTURE PERSPECTIVES
Looking forward, JWEE is committed to further strengthening its position as a leading international platform for high-quality research in women’s entrepreneurship. Future editorial directions will prioritize contributions that adopt global, intersectional, and methodologically rigorous approaches. Special emphasis will be placed on emerging research areas, including digital transformation, green and sustainable entrepreneurship, and the role of women in rapidly evolving and emerging markets. In addition, the journal will continue to promote research that contributes to evidence-based policymaking and demonstrates measurable societal and economic impact.
To enhance its visibility and citation performance, JWEE will continue to support international collaboration among authors, reviewers, and editorial board members, while maintaining high standards of peer review and publication ethics. The journal’s editorial policy will remain focused on attracting innovative, original, and impactful research, thereby contributing to increased citation rates and broader dissemination within the global scholarly community.
While earlier research primarily focused on identifying barriers and characteristics of women entrepreneurs, JWEE’s future development is oriented toward fostering high-impact, internationally relevant research that advances theoretical understanding, informs policy, and supports sustainable and inclusive economic development.
